Community Outreach Coordinator

Grossman Heinz is seeking an experienced, creative, and energetic Community Outreach Coordinator to help us organize and implement a community engagement plan for our project with Access Health CT (AHCT) – Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace established in response to the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for execution of public education and community events; supporting public awareness and branding efforts at spring, summer, and fall outreach events (e.g. fairs, festivals, farmer’s markets, multicultural events, etc.); and helping organize consumer enrollment events during the open enrollment period that runs from November 1, 2016 – January 31, 2017.

This position requires travel throughout Connecticut, but will split time between our office in Simsbury, CT and the client office in Hartford, CT. This is a full-time contract position. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2016 and runs through February 28, 2017 with an opportunity to extend.

We are entering the fourth year of coordinating community outreach work and supporting in-person enrollment operations for Access Health CT. This role is instrumental in supporting AHCT’s continuing mission to increase the number of Connecticut residents who are insured, lower their costs, promote health, and eliminate health disparities. Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate outreach and relationships with new and existing partners of AHCT in order to establish regular and effective communication and engagement
  • Help create opportunities for CT residents, community organizations, civic leaders, and small businesses to interact with AHCT
  • Oversee and execute turnout tactics to maximize public participation in AHCT events through phone calls, email marketing, etc.
  • Oversee all operations to ensure that outreach and enrollment campaign tactics meet the goals of AHCT and effectively engage consumers
  • Provide oral and written reporting on activities to project manager and client
  • In line with overall strategy, provide tactical recommendations on how to reach program goals
  • Effectively collaborate with coworkers and client to deliver results
  • As necessary, represent AHCT at community events or meetings

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years work experience with at least three years experience in community organizing or health outreach
  • Excellent interpersonal communications, public speaking, presentation, and writing skills are required
  • A demonstrated commitment to community engagement and comprehension of core community engagement principles
  • Ability to connect with others and strengthen relationships; ability to engage with organizational partners and leaders and be effective
  • Ability to prioritize work on multiple, concurrent projects and demonstrate effective time management and good judgment in doing so
  • Good organizational skills and an ability to show attention to detail
  • An interest in the mission to provide access to health care coverage and eliminate health disparities
  • Experience working in CT is required
  • Access to reliable transportation is required
  • Working occasional evenings and weekends is required
  • A basic understanding of health care or health insurance or how the Affordable Care Act works is preferred
  • Experience in health care outreach and enrollment is preferred
  • Spanish fluency is a plus

Staff must complete media training, take the AHCT training program, and pass a certification test before engaging with any work on the Access Health CT project. All training hours will be paid. Lastly, any offer of employment will be contingent on passing a criminal background check.

Reporting

The Coordinator will report to the AHCT Project Manager at Grossman Heinz and will interact with Access Health CT staff at all levels.
